Conner's Nautical Bedroom

When we transitioned my son to a "BIG BOY ROOM" we wanted to do something that worked with the style of our New England home and also wasn't too theme like. I also had an adorable sailboat bedding set that I bought at Pottery Barn Kids when he was an infant so this was my inspiration.

The room was already painted an ivory color with a chair rail around the room. I liked the color so I decided to keep it and have my husband paint horizontal navy stripes on the wall. I wanted a contrast from the red headboard we purchased. At Pottery Barn kids outlet on clearance (what a great find!!) I purchased the big red C from http://www.wallwords.com/. It is so easy to apply and it says it's easy to remove too but we haven't tried that yet.

I was on a budget for this room so the savvy shopper I am I tried to find things at places like ebay, Michaels, Homegoods and sorting through old toys from my childhood (the little bear in the yellow raincoat) it was my younger brothers and I always liked him. We also had my sister in law's oak bedroom set in this room. Sorry if I offend anyone but I honestly am not a fan of light oak unless it is hardwood orignal floors in your home (like mine :) ) I decided to paint this red and it happened to be the exact color of the bed. I used a primer and many coats of red paint. It was a ralph lauren color and I do not remember the name of it off the top of my head. Maybe I'll get the time to go in my garage and look for the name. I spray painted the handles black since they are 3 1/2 and NO ONE makes 3 1/2 pulls anymore. Or at least ones that I liked.

The rug was purchased from IKEA as well as the white nightstand. The nautical navy lampshades are PBK but I found them on ebay, along with the yellow oar on the wall and the navy roman shades which are PBK as well.

I took the idea from a PBK catalog and painted a compass on the wall above the dresser. There are still a couple of things I'd like to do to this room, like get a down comforter and duvet for the bed, put a book shelf on the one wall and actually get pictures for the frames next to the window so I can take out the cipart sail boats, lol. Shhh don't tell.

Overall I am happy how cute this room turned out and I think it will last him until his little brother and him have to share a room together. Then I will finally break down and give them the sports themed room my husband has been wanting them to have. Of course it will be sports themed honey but maybe a little madras plaid thrown in there too ;)
